Identifying
Issues Affecting South Asian and White Older Carers of
People with a Learning Disability (60+) within the Bradford
District.
The aim of the project is to explore and identify the types
of support/services required by older carers from South
Asian community in Bradford and District. This project will
run for six months. This will involve working with older
family carers from South Asian community in Bradford and
Airedale, and service agencies. We will identify 30 older
carers (family members) to take part in this project and
will be conducted in the language of the carer or their
preferred language.
This research project will involve three stages:
Stage
1: Mapping of services
We will conduct
in-depth semi-structured interviews with older carers from
South Asian communities including those who are Indian
Pakistani, Bangladeshi and those from White populations.
Stage
2: Focus Groups
A focus group with older family carers who took part in the
project and service agencies will be convened. The aim of
the focus group will be to disseminate results of the
mapping exercise.
Stage
3: Consensus Workshop
We will also hold a consensus workshop with older family
carers, and service agencies including voluntary and
statutory services.
At the end of the project we would have mapped the level of
service use amongst South Asian (Indian, Pakistani and
Bangladeshi) and White older carers; examined the processes
involved in ensuring adequates access and use of services;
explored the types of services required and the best way of
providing these services that would meet the families needs
and developed awareness and consensus around best modela of
support services for older carers from South Asian
community.
