LDQ overview
The diagram below illustrates the personal development of a new worker from day one in post to reaching NVQ competence. The LDQ Induction Award is the first step towards job competence. All time scales will vary according to the individual and way that training and development is delivered in the workplace. The LDQ Induction Award however should be achieved within 12 weeks from a new worker starting in post.
LDQ Centres
1. The progression to competence looks something like this
When a worker takes on a new post there is a learning phase followed by assessment of knowledge and then competence. The learning phase will be longer and more involved for workers who have no experience in social care. The learning phase for some new workers may just involve just an update and workplace specific information. Once the learning phase has been completed the assessment of competence in the workplace can usually be carried out quite simply and quickly.
2. The LDQ Centre and the NVQ Centres check the standards at each stage.
The LDQ Centre monitors the standard of training and assessment of knowledge relevant to working in a learning disability service. The NVQ Centre monitors the standard of competence relevant to the social care sector.
3. The awarding bodies check that the LDQ and NVQ Centres are monitoring the standards adequately and that there is consistency across the UK.
